I have missed blogging!

I can not believe how bad i have been at keeping this whole blog thing up..shame on me!! I started the blog because i herd there is this neat company who will print your blog like a book, i thought what a cool way to "journal" my family! I have been so busy with Homeschooling, Elijah therapy, taking care of my baby boy and the love of my life that i let this go by the way side :(

Any-who, i am gonna try to re dedicate my self to writing more often, because i think its important.
I have spent this entire summer doing a crazy amount of projects, my next one is to organize my recipes. I love to cook/bake etc, i really need to get these recipes whittled down and easy access so my meal planning goes smoother! I will keep you updated on the method i chose!! Wish me luck!

Playdough

I have fallen in love with homemade play-dough. like IN LOVE. its way better than the store boughten stuff. Way better. Pre pare to be blown away. ok, maybe not that intense but ya know..its pretty cool.

Home Made Play-dough:
2 c. flour
2tblsp cream of tarter
1/2c. salt
2c. water
2 tblsp canola oil
food coloring

In sauce pan combine 1st 3 ingredients, gradually add next 2. cook and stir over medium heat for 3 to 5 min. until ball forms...or until you think you pretty much completely ruined it and are gonna have to throw it away..thats normally when i pull it off the stove, and it turns out just right ;)cool. divide, i normally divide it in half and do 2 colors. i add the dye in ziplock baggies to prevent my hands from getting dyed. store in air tight containers. fall in love. play.

or you can do what my kids do and sample some..eewwww......

But they wont eat my cooking...enough said.

and lastly, try not to be to mad at me when its time to clean it all up...cause you know, for some reason just cause its home made doesn't make it any easier.....

What i have been up to lately...

Being a Mom, its my responsibility to teach my children responsibility. On that never ending quest. I have come up with this chore chart of sorts. Because, my daughter can not read above kindergarten level, the PEC system has inspired me. A chore chart i do not have to follow her around with, and to teach her independence. It is working really well so far!

when she is finished with a chore she can put the picture of the chore, moved from the Cinderella as a maid...to Cinderella as a princess!!! she loves it!!! everyone is happy!!
in further news i want to start making hair bows..this is a give away i entered..dont mind the shameless plug

Motherhood and Disicpline

I am acquainted with many of them, most of my friends are them. Mothers.  Over the weekend our little family was out and about and I was surrounded by them. And it popped in my head how many different kinds there are! There are young mommies, older mommies,  the I know everything better than you mommy, the supportive mommy, the unsure mommy, the mommy to be, the mommy who wants to be a mommy, the researcher mommy, the fun mommy ….the list goes on and on. It’s the bond that ties and relates most women together.

I was in the store the other day, and I saw her, you know. the Jerry Springer mommy. The lady screaming bloody murder (and you know what else) to her misbehaving child in the store. It must be the same Lady traveling around to different stores screaming at the same poor child, because I see it all the time! Surely there cannot be a large number of mothers out there screaming at there naughty ones? Right?

I try super hard not to be judgmental of these grocery store banshees. I mean who am I to judge? I have an autistic child, and he makes every outing fun. Haha. Or not. There are many times I wish I could blow my top, let out the steam and rip right into him. Cause that would show him…right???? I believe it would show him something, but not what he should be seeing.

My thinking is every time you discipline you child you are teaching them something about you.  How you handle each situation, reveals another part of you. What have you taught your child about you? It scares me sometimes, when in disciplining my child..(which done correctly is supposed to be a learning experience) what I am actually teaching them. Instead of training them to be better, I am teaching them how to handle a situation. I am generally a pretty low key individual. It takes allot to get me mad or upset. People often comment how patient I can be with my kids. And I do try very hard to be. But no one is perfect and handles a situation perfectly 100% of the time. But I do believe if you train your self on how to respond properly it becomes habit. It bothers me to see these mothers. The lash out disciplinarian, with no self control. Its an amazing wonder they ending up with no self control children that lash out them selves! I think its definitely not coincidence.

Being a mother is not for the weak, from giving birth to giving your child away at marriage and beyond. I have learned it’s a extreme sport. Its so hard sometimes. But anything that is hard always has the most beneficial rewards.

I challenge myself every day to be that example my children need to see. I strive to be what I want them to achieve. I believe in discipline, strongly. But it needs to be done the right way.

And I am pretty sure being a grocery store banshee isn’t the right way…just saying.

My Baby turns 5!!

Holy cow! where did these 5 year go? I cannot even believe it! My sweet girl turns 5 today, the 1st day of summer..and my in laws anniversary! It seems like only yesterday...

6years of trying to conceive and 1 miscarriage, in mid November i find out i was pregnant for the second time. at 9 week pregnant i went to the emergency room and thought we were loosing our 2nd baby. to find out we didn't and was put on bed rest for 3 weeks until i was at the 12 week mark.

Julia Katelynne Hodges 5lbs 5oz 18in
Talk about a horrible pregnancy! At 19 weeks pregnant i ended up being 4cmm dilated and only given a 1% chance survival rate of my baby girl, who i just had an ultra sound of the week before. What a surreal experience. I praise the Lord for my doctor who went against conventional wisdom and gave me a stitch,  against hospitals recommendation, to "let it happen". 16 weeks of laying on my left side, only to get up to use the potty and shower once a week. to this day i still have hip problems on my left side.

Talk about a horrible delivery! I did it all natural. and it was AWFUL!!! i wasn't in any pain to speak of...because i was dilating with out contractions, i didn't feel the need for pain meds or anything. But i needed to have pitocin to help get the baby out because i wasn't contracting. Once the stitch came out i immediately went to 5cmm and was put into labor and delivery. And so i pushed med free with an extreamly high dose of pitocin for 3 hours!!! i was so swollen from being on bed rest that she had a hard time coming out. I wanted to die i was in so much pain...there was something different than a regular delivery, i had ty basically natural, it hurt allot..but this delivery was different..i literally wanted to die. When Julia came out the pain didn't stop, they tried to lay her on my belly afterward but something went wrong and i couldn't stop the bleeding, i was rushed to emergency surgery leaving my baby and very scared husband behind...recovery was no breeze either, i had so many stitches..my smallest baby required the most recovery/work.

the best ob/gyn ever...Dr Novotny was a God send

But ever since then, Julia has been a dream come true, i had gotten my blue eyed little girl i had always wanted. My partner in crime. I had so much fun with her as a baby, she was my little dolly! i have soooo much fun dressing her up and doing her hair...after she FINALLY grew some!

If you don't know Julia well, she is my oldest child. But doent have the oldest child mentality. She is very sweet, kindhearted,  gentle spirited, soft hearted. She loves being with her family. She is giving, loves to laugh. She loves being a girl! She is very smart, and is the best big sister her brothers could ask for. I am so very proud of her! I am so humbled and blessed that God chose me to raise her. Happy Birthday my sweet girl, your mommy loves you more than you will  ever know..or at least until you have a baby of your own.
