  2. I feel so happy and proud when there's a big stack of fresh, clean, white diapers folded in the laundry room... Hubby calculates how much each load probably saved us in disposable diaper waste... : ) Your homemade ones are really cute!

  6. I do make my own laundry soap, but for diapers i use babyganics fragrance free..i use it just for diapers..i got it at buy buy baby for $8 with a coupon! The diaper isnt a pocket..what i use is a nice pre fold with a snappie and then this diaper as an outer layer for titus, just because it would be a little more absorbent than a plain cover. for asher i am using pre folds and a diaper cover, i just bought a pattern online for and i am so excited..i was making my own pattern up from the diaper pattern i bought but i really wanted a separate pattern :) i am having great success, considering asher leaked out of disposables all the time..we have had only one leak so far this way but he was in the diaper over night for 12 hours..he is such a good sleeper i didnt want to wake him to change him, i used a bigger pre fold the next night and no issues :) isnt cloth so fun? i love it!

  7. cool! i LOVE grovia and sunbaby the most-SO trim you can't tell they're in cloth. then i have BG and FBs. i made a homemade diaper detergent and use all free and clear on our clothes. i've learned that cloth is not NEARLY as bad as it sounds if done right and when we spent $80-120/month on pure and naturals for my boys allergies they are saving us a bunch of money, so its worth it. and it is fun! i stalk craigslist and ebay hoping for deals to get more of my favorites, lol!

the only hang up i'm having is cloth wipes, i can't seem to get it. i made one batch and they smelled awful after one use - i did a water, olive oil and baby wash mixture. i tried stripping them but the smell wouldn't leave them so i tossed the batch. i just recently made another batch but am getting annoyed because i feel like i didn't make them big enough and i still haven't found a solution that works for us. i've just been wetting them with water. i need to buy a spray bottle. i feel like they are easier with cloth diapers because they all go in the same pail. do you use cloth wipes? any tips??

  8. i think the olive oil is probably going bad..my fav way to wipe when home is a wash cloth in warm water...i am currently sewing flannel wipes..and plan on using a baby oil baby wash and water solution..but i still have to research the effects of the baby oil on the diapers. I bought wipes in bulk so i am using up the last bit of those..but i always have used cloth on elijah with plain water and a wash cloth! it gets his bum squeaky clean :) I have a friend that uses gro via and loves them, and had another friend that used them and loved them, but they wore out quick for her...i cant even imagine the savings to you and dan..you must love it!

  9. you need a cloth update, lol. how is your detergent holding up? i've been having terrible issues finding something that works for us. although it could just be the microfiber stink that you read about online. i haven't used cloth since getting pregnant since i can barely handle the smell of poopy dipes but jackson's bum is sooo raw at this point that i put him in one this morning within an hour it leaked and stunk. i know its my soap, can't seem to find something that works. buy buy baby is far for us, gonna see if your detergent is online for sale.

  10. I love my detergent! but i do have soft water!! never stripped my diaper yet :) I will do a cloth update very soon for you..i have all my diapers drying right now :) have you stripped your diapers at all? some people boil them..some use dawn..it just sounds like he has build up..the diapers i sew, i have been using suade cloth as the interior..its supposed to stink less..try looking into diaper made with that too

  11. i'm not sure if ours is soft or hard. i assume hard or semi hard from the country wide map i saw. i have stripped my diapers more times than i can count at this point. its soooo frustrating. i started out using my all free and clear and noticed repelling and leaks so i stripped and then switched to this homemade batch i read online but it uses borax, washing soda and oxyclean-so no soap. but from what i read online i read that they technically dont need the soap and thats what builds up. after maybe a 2 months of that i got the stink and slight leaking-depending on what diaper choice. then i got pregnant and couldn't handle the poop smell and just put the issue aside. but now jackson's bum is sooo raw and he really needs to be back in cloth so i stripped them for 2 days (major ugh ugh ugh). with no soap being in them technically i was shocked how long it took. i just started fresh again this morning but am unsure of what i'll wash them in in 2 days. i'm afraid to use the homemade kind that my cousin uses - borax, washing soda and nep something soap. that has a slight smell which makes me nervous since he's so sensitive but she swears that once they come out of the dryer that they dont have a smell. i don't want to spend a fortune, ya know? i'm considering getting flats or prefolds at the next luvaboos consignment sale (amazing prices!) and some girl prints. but i'm afraid of bulk, lol!

  12. When you boil the diapers, do you get suds? if so you still have build up. If not..there has to be something else wrong. I loved the prefolds with covers..in my opinion its the best breast fed baby poop encaser! LOL, thats what i did with asher until he was on solids...i actually sewed all his covers, and am now sewing his pocket diapers :)

  13. haha, oops that was me..didnt know kris was signed into google :) another thought...is it possible that the baby wipe solution is leaving a residue on the diapers? I had to stop using mine and just use plain water for that reason...just a thought!

  14. i do the dawn method in my washer, this time i let them soak in the hot hot water before the agitation cycle. i rinse rinse rinse till there are no suds and also no sign of soap in the sink it empties into. i read online yesterday of a lady who uses this recipe and she uses 4tbs in 2 washes each time, i only use 1-1.5tbs so maybe i'm i need to use some more. although i got that amount from the original site i found the recipe on. becca uses 1-1.5 of her's as well but her recipe uses the soap.

i haven't used the wipe stuff in a long time, i just can't seem to get these cloth wipes down. i tried a water bottle method with just soap and water and made new wipes which are too small for my liking and annoy me. haha. i think i give up on them, lol!
